Break the Barriers Swim Program
Fall 2011 Swim School
Taught by RED CROSS certified instructors at Break the Barriers, Inc.
SESSION SCHEDULE - August 22 - October 29
(Weekly Lessons)
BTB swimming lessons are booked on a session schedule, not on a monthly basis. We do this to uphold the integrity of our teaching by ensuring that your child will have the same coach for the entire session (with the exception of illness). Please attend every class and be prompt. Tardiness is very disruptive in a swim class setting.
There are no make-ups available for missed classes.
We appreciate the Positive impact you have on your child's aquatic development!

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs swim lessons?
All infants and preschoolers should learn how to be safe around bodies of water. We recommend formal swim lessons as soon as possible. A structured swim class will provide safety skills and also help build a child's confidence.
It is very important to learn to swim above water and develop safe habits around water. Learning how to swim well with correct breathing technique will help your child gain confidence in the water and could even save a life.
How long will it take to learn to swim?
The time it takes to learn to swim really depends on the child's age and fitness level. It is difficult to determine how many lessons it will take a specific swimmer to learn the basic skills of floating, kicking, and breathing. Students who have already mastered these techniques will often learn much faster. Our swim lessons will help each student learn at a pace that is comfortable and will help those who may have forgotten the skills they learned last summer catch up quickly.
What should my swimmer wear?
For boys and dads, most types of swim trunks are fine, but the more freedom of movement in the leg, the better. Board shorts may not allow enough hip movement to execute breast stroke kicks correctly. For girls and moms, a one piece swim suit is required.
What ages do you teach and what system do you use?
Break the Barriers certifies all of its swim instructors using the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. This combines the best in swim instruction with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety. Courses are available for a variety of ages and skill levels to encourage healthy, lifelong recreational habits and to help keep your family safe.
Choose from courses for children and adults:
Parent and Child Aquatics (ages 6 months through about 3 years)
Preschool Aquatics (about ages 3½ through 5 years)
Learn-to-Swim (about 5½ years through adults)
Will the coaches force my child under the water?
No. We do not believe in forcing people, no matter the age, to do something they are terrified of. We do, however, encourage everyone to overcome their fears, and we have an array of creative ways at hand to help your child achieve mastery over water, from blowing bubbles and diving for toys, to flying through the butterfly stroke. We earnestly seek success for your child.
